Solar Telescopes

Dedicated solar telescopes fall into two categories. There are white light telescopes like the Celestron Eclipsmart that will show sun spots and transits of inner planets or even the international space station across the surface of the sun. These are really fun and inexpensive scopes to get out and start looking at our local star.  We also have a great collection of solar filters that can adapt almost any telescope to solar viewing. 

If you're looking for the detailed surface views and a close up look at prominences like solar flares, you need an h-alpha scope. These scopes are highly specialized and filter out all light except for bandwidths associated with hydrogen, the most abundant element of our sun. These scopes will give you mind-blowing views of incredible solar activity. You can pair them with a simple manual mount, or a dedicated solar tracking mount like the Sky Watcher SolarQuest.
