Product Description

The flattener: One end of the thread is M68 × 1, connected to the focuser; the other end of the thread is M48 × 0.75 and has a built-in 2" filter thread. The back focus is 55mm. If it needs to be extended, the adapter can be screwed down to reveal the M54 × 0.75 male thread, and the back focus becomes 81.5mm. The flattener adopts a triplet air-spaced structure, the peripheral light reduction control is excellent, can effectively improve the curvature of the field, improve the corner image quality, and reduce aberrations, so that users can take clearer astronomical photos.

Sharpstar 61EDPHIII First Night

The SharpStar 61EDPH III is a compact and lightweight telescope suitable for astrophotography and observation. The 360 mm focal length allows for imaging wider sections of the sky with the full frame flattener/reducer. The multifunctional handle, finder base, 2" adapter, and 1.25" adapter means the scope is ready for accessories like a finder/guide scope, ASIAir, diagonal prism and eyepiece. The longer dovetail bar is really handy for adjusting the balance on your mount as you add various accessories. There is a small focus lock bolt on the bottom of the 2.5" rack-and-pinion focuser when the scope is pointed straight upward. What was an unexpected bonus was the sharp contrast observing star clusters from a light polluted sky. This made city based observing very enjoyable. I can't wait to get SharpStar 61EDPH III under a dark moonless country night sky. Given the lightweight nature of this telescope the SharpStar 61EDPH III is easy to setup especially on cold winter nights.

Works for the intended scope

I bought this on a promotion with the Sharpstar ED61PH scope. Works well, I have not used the scope without the flattener so don't know what effect it has however all photos on ASI1600MM micro 4/3 are sharp to the edges of frame with no issues at all.

Great telescope

Great telescope huge field of view. Super flat with the flattener. No chromatic abbreviation that I can see. Great stars across a apsc sensor.

Nice little apo

I purchased the 61EDPH as a guide scope for my larger app. I am pleased with the image quality and the fit and finish for such an economical little Apo!
So far, it appears to be free of color, fringing in bright back lit situations, and I am hoping that it proves the same under the stars. The focuser is quite smooth, it comes with a camera, rotator, the specs for the field flattener and threat sizes make it relatively trouble free to adapt to various cameras. It might just be the perfect travel scope when paired with a strain wave mount.
