The Air-Chair (TAC-1003) might look like a typical imported drum throne — but you won't find an equivalent in any music store! We've sourced parts from the U.S. and Taiwan and machined mating parts to create a custom observing stool that's easy to use, comfortable, and most importantly, has the durability to standup to the elements in the observing field. Assembled at Tele Vue for quality assurance, the Air-Chair will become a valued observing partner.
To fully understand the Air-Chair, let's look at the parts and construction, from the seat down to the legs, to learn what makes it unique.
- Cushion Seat: We start with a generous 4" thick, vinyl covered cushion for comfort all-night long. You'll spend more time lingering at the eyepiece when comfortably seated on Air-Chair's soft and rotating seat. Seat removes for ease of transport.
- Custom Wide Seat-Flange: The 3/16" thick, extra-wide, aluminum seat flange is designed to stabilize and support the seat cushion even when your full weight is off-set from center. Tele Vue Air Chair has a wide seat flange for years of use.
- Height Adjustment Handle and Release Block: The piston release block is securely screwed to the aluminum seat flange and places the piston activation handle at your fingertips at the edge of the seat cushion. This assembly is press-fit into the pneumatic piston and allows seat heights from 20½" to 28″ (52 to 71cm).
- Class 4 Pneumatic Piston: The heart of the Air-Chair is the class 4 Piston, suitable for loads of 550 lbs / 250 kg. Class 4 designates thicker construction for high pressure and in-turn durability. This piston is completely sealed and requires no maintenance.
- Piston Housing Custom Bushing: We have a local shop in New York machine a bushing that is press-fit into the chrome piston housing. This accuracy assures smooth, wobble-free motion along the height adjustment range. Air Chair legs are stable and durable.
- Tripod: The Air-Chair legs are double-braced for stability and durability. A hand locking screw fixes the leg spreader in position to avoid tipping accidents. The thick rubber foot pads prevent scratched floors while they also protect the bottom of Air-Chair's legs during field use.
The Air-Chair's adjustable height pairs perfectly with Tele Vue scopes and mounts for an optimized observing experience.
