Why we love the ZWO FF 130 APO Refractor Telescope (ZWO-FF130-APO)

We love refractors, especially nice flat APO's that give you some wiggle room on your backfocus measurement. These do exactly that, all while offering a massive imaging circle that supports full frame cameras.

ZWO refractors use a modified/modernized petzval designs that give you nice flat views with sharp stars all the way to the corners. The scope has a dedicated reducer available for it that converts it down from a mid-focal length to a short focal length scope.

Theres a lot to love here.

Product Description

ZWO FF130 APO Astronomical telescope

The ZWO FF130 APO is a refractive astrograph with the powerful flatfield optical design which saves you from the expensive cost of a field flattener. It eliminates the trouble of calculating the back focus distance of the flattener and connecting various accessories to achieve that distance. You can just connect any possible accessories you need. As long as the target is focused, the whole optical system is perfect for imaging. This makes the whole setting up process much more convenient, and saves your time, allowing you to pay more attention to the image shooting itself.

Compared to FF107 APO, FF130 APO has a larger size. The aperture is 23mm larger. The focal length at f/7.7 is also longer, this will yield higher details and slightly higher magnifications but with a field of view suitable for all deep sky objects. The longer focal length will be especially effective on planetary and larger deep sky objects which, when combined with the larger 130mm aperture, will provide stunning detail in a reasonable time.

The quadruplet lens with two ED glasses offers excellent control of chromatic and other aberrations. With its self-flattening design, FF130 APO offers strong advantages in astronomical shooting. It supports a medium frame 60mm image circle, has a fine spot diagram with tiny distortion of the peripheral stars, and its central RMS radius is less than 2 microns.

The OTA weighs 10.5kg, and the full package with tube rings and other accessories weighs 12.5kg. The 3.4" rigid focuser comes with a new-type 3600 rotator with scales and a finder base. M86, M68, M54, and M48 camera adapters are also attached, and the M48 adapter has a 2" thread for installing filters. When used with the 3"0.7 x flat field reducer, the telescope can reach a focal ratio of f/5.4 and a focal length of 700mm, effectively reducing exposure time. The multifunctional handle comes with a central slot for attaching an M6 screw with an M6 screw hole. Standard Losmandy dovetail plate, together with sturdy double tube ring, is perfectly suited for viewing and shooting.

Quadruplet air-spaced APO

FF130 APO is a Quadruplet with two ED glasses which offers excellent control of chromatic and other aberrations.

60mm image circle

FF130 APO supports medium-format cameras, such as AS1461, which gives you a larger field of view. The stars are small and round with a central RMS radius of 2um.

Support for Medium-format cameras

Self-flattening design

No need for a separate field flattener, FF130 APO eliminates the trouble of calculating the back focus distance of the flattener and connecting various accessories to achieve that distance. You can just connect any possible accessories you need. As long as the target is focused, the whole optical system is perfect for imaging.

No need for a separate field flattener

Easy-to-use Design

Extension-type hood

ZWO FFI 30 APO is equipped with a telescopic lens hood, a high-quality CNC machined and painted tube. The lens hood can be fixed with thumb screws to avoiding from sliding.

Detachable tube ring

The telescope' s tube ring can be easily detached and re-installed in seconds.

Various adapters

The FFI 30 APO also features three different threaded connections for connecting a camera or accessories: M48, M54, and M68 and M86. The M48 adapter features a female thread inside for attaching 2" filters.

Coarse & fine focus adjustment

The ZWO FFI 30 APO features a large 3.4" rack and pinion focuser that is directly compatible with the ZWO EAF without the need for additional adapters. In front of the focuser is a 360-degree rotator for easily dialing in the framing of your deep sky object or imaging target

What can I see with a ZWO FF 130 APO Refractor Telescope (ZWO-FF130-APO)?

Here are some simulated views of common objects. Results with your telescope will vary with viewing conditions, obrits, equipment and more.
